Millette-Richer house
Description

From 1867 to 1990, this house with an intriguing past was the residence of the Millette-Richer families.
It housed the first telephone station from 1890 to 1935. Although the original residence was destroyed by fire, it was soon rebuilt on the same foundations. Félix Millette Jr., the first manager, entrusted the responsibility of the telephone switchboard to his wife Alphonsine. She was assisted by her sister Marie Routhier and later by Olivine Couvrette and Marie-Anne Landriault.
In 1918, Félix Millette, having been named jailer and governor of the prison in L'Orignal, had to move into the quarters specially reserved for him in the prison building. At this time, Marie-Anne Landriault of L'Orignal assumed the duties of chief operator in the residence of Félix Millette. Following the sudden death of Félix in 1930 at the age of 74, his wife Alphonsine became the local manager. Mrs. Millette died in 1935.
Marie-Anne Landriault then became the local representative for the Bell Telephone Company in a new location in the red brick building that also housed the bank on King Street until 1954.
