Périard House
Description
Émilien Périard and his wife Cornélie Sauvé left Vaudreuil with their two sons Alcide and Émilien in 1911, and settled in L'Orignal. They rented a plot of land on Longueuil Street before purchasing it in 1914 to build a house, at a cost of $5,000. The family moved into their new home in 1915. The two sons left L'Orignal to work in Ottawa and Montreal.
When the mother died in 1921, Émilien returned to open a garage not far from his father's house on Longueuil Street, at the same time helping his father who was a saddler and shoemaker. In 1942, Émilien married Gabrielle Lamarche; the couple had six children. The family shared the house on Longueuil Street with Grandfather Périard, and the home remained in the family until 2018.
