Jean-Charles Halonde House
Description

This large stone house, whose exact age is unknown, belonged to Eugène, son of Arthur St-André. Jean-Charles Lalonde (1911-1984), son of Julien, acquired it in 1944, and in 1948, he and his new bride, Gabrielle Perreault (1923-2016) made it their home. Jean-Charles died in 1984 but his wife Gaby remained in the house until she passed away in 2016, at the age of 92.
Stones to build the house came from a rock quarry on Julien Lalonde's ancestral land, located across, and to the south of Bay Road. This quarry has provided stone used in the construction of many buildings in the region, including the front steps of Saint-Jean-Baptiste Catholic Church, L’Orignal.
