The White Inn
Description
Property of Nathaniel Treadwell, the land was sold to Eden Johnson and then to Chauncey, his son. It is assumed that William Moody, a builder by trade who bought the land in 1824, built the house. Around 1843, William Coffin settled on the farm, staying until 1863. At that point the house and its 170 acres of land became the property of the O'Brian family, going from father to son. John O'Brian and his wife Susannah converted their large house into a popular guest home which they operated until 1950 as The White Inn. An old advertising pamphlet mentions that the White Inn rates were very affordable: rooms at a dollar per night per person; meals at seventy-five cents, or à la carte.
In 1972, David Christie's family took possession of the former White Inn.
