The L. Bertrand & Fils Ltée store, located at the corner of Longueuil and John streets, was a general store in the purest tradition.
In 1906, Louis Bertrand founded the Bertrand & Séguin store with his nephew, Hector Séguin. In 1913, two of Louis Bertrand's sons, Élie Oscar and Joseph, aged 19 and 16 respectively, bought the business and named it Louis Bertrand et Fils.
In 1938, the two brothers retired from the business, and their brother Jean became the sole owner. He soon undertook major renovations, doubling the size of the corner store. Jean Bertrand dedicated his life to the store and to serving the community as best he could. Mr. Jean would open his store on Sundays after mass so that people from the country could buy supplies before returning home.
In 1965, Jean gave way to his two sons, Louis and Pierre, who took over the family business.
In September 1973, after 67 years of existence, the L. Bertrand & Fils Ltée store closed its doors for good. From yesterday to today, several businesses have replaced the general store.
Huneault Garage Doors & Construction is now located at the corner of Longueuil and John Streets.
