This elegant Victorian dwelling was built around 1885 for Eden Philo Johnson, husband of Isabella Treadwell (daughter of Charles Platt Treadwell, sheriff and last seignior of L’Orignal). With its red brick exterior, two front gables embellished with ornamental trim and balanced with a pointed turret, this house is a perfect example of the neo-gothic style.
Over the years, it was home to Justice Constantineau, who built an addition in 1901. For close to 90 years, it became the home of the Proulx family, beginning with lawyer Edmond Proulx (MPP and later, a judge) followed by his son Henri, a lawyer, crown attorney and mayor of L’Orignal for 25 years. A local businessman, Bernard Pilon, owned it from 1995 to 2005. Restorations over the years have not altered the elegant exterior of this remarkable house, one of the jewels of L’Orignal.
